  1. May 2017 Time Trial

This one's a good one. http://cczone.invisionzone.com/index.php?/files/file/621-%7B?%7D/ This time we are running the competition in Lynx! (Of course I forgot to change the file to default to that, so that's why the version is 1.1.) The first level in MS would just have a touch too much boosting so I thought more people would enjoy it in Lynx. I will of course still be interested in seeing your MS routes, so send those too even if we are concentrating on Lynx in the competition. (I'll even try to figure out what your route is worth in Lynx for you if you want.) The first level, Frozen Polyominoes, is one of those chip collecting levels with shapes, but this time the chips surround the shapes instead of forming them. Can you recognize this set of polyominoes, that is, what characteristic defines them? The second level, Linked Lite, is a shortened version of one found in lookatthis's 60 Minutes.dat. I found it to be a fun monster manipulation level, and I hope you will too. Usually we add up the remaining seconds on the levels to determine a score, but this time the disparate nature of the levels calls for something a bit different. A gain of one second in the first level does not feel the same as in the second one, due to both the open nature of the first one and the equalizing last room of the second one. Thus, we'll see what happens if we consider the seconds in the first level to be twice as valuable than those in the second for scoring purposes. Enjoy! -Miika Details (including the deadline of JUNE 11th):
  2. A Lynx with Chip's Challenge
  3. This about the CC2 game engine compared to CC1. Not the levels or game elements. First of all, years ago; When I was first forced to start using tileworld [because MS chips challenge doesn’t work on 64 bit Operating systems] I used the MS rule set. That’s what I was used to and I liked it better. Lynx seemed very weird at first and I didn’t really like how a few amount of seemingly simple rule set changes really made for some major changes in level design. After a while however I got used to Lynx and grew to like it better. Now, I pretty much prefer it and I can’t really stand MS anymore. The main reasons; smooth animations not only look nicer, they make it much easier to play, to see where monsters are going and easier to follow chip around as well. Now whenever I play MS it feels so choppy and annoying. Secondly the glitches in MS are a pretty big hassle. Most notably slide delay and the controller/boss glitch. So it’s really nice to not have to deal with that. But now that CC2 has been released I must say that I like that so much better than either MS or tileworld’s Lynx. Not only because the game and the new features are awesome, but I like the game engine better. I feel like movements are slightly smoother and more fluid. It also feels like the hit-detection on enemies is friendlier than Lynx. So often when playing in tileworld I die while trying to step into a line of enemies or get caught by a monster when I wasn’t expecting it. I often misstep, either moving too far or not enough. If I’m really honest my playing experience with Tileworld’s lynx has been quite frustrating. Since I started playing CC2 I haven’t found any of these frustrations, at least not nearly to the degree of tileworld. The hit detection is very nice imo, the controls are slightly easier and feel better. I like the ability to reveal walls while passing by them, and the “splash delay” is minimal too. This was another nuisance in Lynx.* CC2 has its share of glitches too of course; some of which while I haven’t run into yet myself, I would image may be quite frustrating. But so far, nothing I’ve encountered has been as game-breaking as the MS glitches. Overall I really feel the improvements on CC2 far outweigh any negatives verses CC1. So for the most part I’ve stopped playing CC1, though I still play a level or two occasionally, I haven’t deleted the game forever or anything like that. But from now on it’s primarily CC2 for me. And any level sets I make will be for CC2. What other people’s thoughts on this? *this is a side point but that splash delay is weird imo. I recently saw a video of the Amiga version of chips challenge [which in graphical quality looks very similar to the Lynx] there is no splash delay at all!
  4. Atari Lynx music

I’m planning on attempting to make recreations of all the original tunes made for the Lynx version of CC1. I’d like to know as much info on those songs as I can, but especially who wrote them so I can give credit. But all I've been able to find is what's in these videos: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PYFIosFOAJU&list=PL335F9BCC9BEE7E0C I can't find any of this on the wiki. Can anyone at least confirm that this is accurate? And are these all of the songs found in the original game?

  7. CCLP3 Lynx

    Version 1.0

    3 downloads

This is a TWS solution file for CCLP3 in Lynx. All levels have been solved, but there are no bolds.
  8. Zzt

    Version 1.5

    164 downloads

This is a CC1 levelset with 61 levels, all of which are solvable in MS, and should be Lynx compatible (except the last level). I would like these levels to be considered for CCLP4 (except levels 30 and 53). The difficulty of the levels ranges from easy to hard. If any busts or other issues are discovered, I'll be sure to fix them as quickly as possible. I want to thank Michael for his help playtesting the set. I hope everyone enjoys. B)
  9. C1059-2

    Version 1.0

    51 downloads

This is the sequel to C1059-1. Contains 50 levels, entirely solvable in both Lynx and MS. See this thread for more details: http://cczone.invisionzone.com/index.php?/topic/1130-c1059-2-cc1/ Thanks to Cyberdog for playtesting! Please leave feedback. Thanks for playing!
  10. C1059-2 (CC1)

This is a CC1 set, not a CC2 set. I began building it almost immediately after releasing C1059-1. Currently, it has about 40 levels. I hope to release it when I have 50. The set will be solvable in Lynx and MS, but not in pedantic Lynx. I have no immediate plans to make it work for the Steam ruleset, but it may come eventually. I am currently searching for playtesters for the set. If you would be interested, please send me a PM. Thanks!
  11. CCLXP2 Beta TWS

    Version 1.0

    11 downloads

This TWS file is not to claim any award. It is simply a solution guide for CCLXP2 Beta. All 149 levels have been solved, but not optimized.
  12. C1059-1.dat

    Version 1.0

  21. Hi! So there's a new version of ChoicesLP2 available and we can discuss some of the suggested versions here. Please take a look at the levels before voting in the poll. Here are some comments too: And Then There Were... Four? (#48) This is pretty much an aesthetics question. Do you think the level looks better with extra clone buttons, making it harder to find the right one? Last time I asked this question the option to do something else got the most votes, but there was no explanation by anyone what that something else could be. Quad-Boot (#57) This too is largely a matter of preference, but also a measure of how much like the original would you like the modified version to be like. There are three sections in the level that all can be decided on separate from the other parts (the start, the water area behind the teleport, and the last teleport). If you like a combination of some ideas from the different versions, do tell us. What are the pluses and minuses of each version? Checkerboard II (#94) Here the choice more one of game play. Which do you think feels in Lynx the most like the original in MS? YAP demo puzzle This one is only part of the level being considered. It is not an easy level to convert to MS as the original solution requires a behavior in MS that is not too common (transparency). I could write a whole essay on what types of things we could try in Lynx and how this current demo puzzle relates to that, but for now all we need is to gauge how difficult you think this small level is. Compared to solving the original, how hard is this? Can anyone even solve it? Can you find the bust in this version? Frozen Birdbath (#130) Here is an example of a pretty difficult level to convert to Lynx, in my opinion. We have managed to analyze the original though and tried to replicate each area somehow in Lynx usually using popup walls and ice. The main question here is if you like the larger version more than the more compact one. These levels also showcase some of the ways a level can be made to only work in Lynx and not MS. For the larger one, would you prefer hint tiles instead of thieves? For the smaller one, would you prefer a clone block on top of the exit, or some other device? You can also comment on the difficulty and if you think it matches the original's. Any and all comments welcome! This means if you agree with some choice, it is very good to hear from you! If you have some other suggestion that we didn't think of, please do share. Thanks! -Miika
  22. Hi! So we want to lock down the name for this edition of CCLP2 that would work in Lynx. The main options to consider are CCLP2LX and CCLXP2. The first one is short for "Chip's Challenge Level Pack 2 Lynx" but the X also references the ten years it has been since the original release. However, this might not be a perfect fit, as the acronym is pretty long and when all the letters are capitalized it is a bit heavy to read as well. To offset this, we could separate the LX from the rest of it by a dash or a period. These might still confuse people, as there is no established way to name Lynx versions of sets. So some people already use names like cc1-lynx.dac and CHIPS-LYNX.DAT on their own, and thus CCLP2-LX might be easily confused with the original CCLP2. The last choice is to move the X and get rid of one of the L's by using CCLXP2, which might stand for "Chip's Challenge Lynx Pack 2". Does that look too weird? Weigh in with your votes and thoughts! First impressions are valuable, so tell us how the suggestions made you feel! Thanks! -Miika
