July Mini Time Trial - Fool's Gold

Recommended Posts

Some of us have been discussing about occasionally running shorter and more casual competitions. We finally got around to doing that on the Skype chat group, but figured it would be fun to share the opportunity with the rest of you as well. The level is by Flareon350 and it nicely combines collecting two types of objects. You can download it here:

This is a mini competition, so the rules are a bit different than proper Time Trials. We hand out some Chip Cup points as a small participation award, but more likely just playing a fun level is a bigger incentive for joining. You don't need to send or post your solution anywhere, just post your time below in this thread (or you may post other people's scores if they post them somewhere else first). So sharing scores while the competition is running is ok, but let's not share solutions just yet. After the deadline, it would be nice to see the quickest solution posted somewhere :)

Here are how we'll try to give out Chip Cup points:

5 points - first to report the best time in either MS or Lynx

4 points - anyone who eventually scores a best time
3 points - anyone who had a pretty good time
2 points - anyone who solved the level (but I guess they didn't have a good time with it?)
1 point  - anyone else who comments on having played the level

Let's see how this works. Oh, and I guess we need a deadline for scores, let's say the end of July where you live. And thanks to Josh for letting us use your level!

Enjoy!

As Miika already knows, I found a 262 route.

Pretty fun level to optimize- no clear starting point, but some individual sections that can eventually be joined into a route...and then balancing the keys collected.

I'm glad this level decided to be used, and I hope it's fun for those who enter this :)

Not an optimized route at all but 233 is my score.

Also consider this a confirmation that JoshL7 will most likely be a thing. ;)

Alright, managed to improve my (MS) time to

263

Oh and also, not really sure how to properly ask this or so but, even though I'm still a sort of relatively new user around here, could I possibly join the skype chat?  If so, my skypename is gamebop.

Nice job Mote!

My new times:

260 Lynx and 263 MS.

In the days when nobody else seemed to play Lynx competitively, I would have thought that nobody else would ever bother equaling this Lynx score. Now I'm sure someone can do it, but it's still not too easy.

Alright so this competition has been unofficially over for a month with no results, so I'm going to compile them. Let's go!

First up: an order of score reports.

IHNN: 262 MS (b)

Flareon: 233 MS (b-29)

Miika: 262 MS (b) and 258 Lynx (b)

chipster: 214 MS (b-48) and 201 Lynx (b-57)

Motekopasznyaku (Mote): 262 MS (b) and 259 Lynx (b+1)

Flareon: 252 MS (b-10)

Mote: 263 MS (b+1)

Miika: 263 MS (b) and 260 Lynx (b+1)

IHNN: 263 MS (b)

Ruben: 262 MS (b-1) and 260 Lynx (b)

So what does this all mean for points? Well, the people who were the first to find the bold route for a ruleset (Mote and Miika) get 5 points. Anyone else who ended with a bold gets 4 points (IHNN and Ruben). Anyone with a "pretty good" time gets 3, and my initial thought for this would be b-10. And that's what Flareon has! Anyone who solved the level, then, gets 2 points (chipster) and no one commented without solving. The final breakdown is thus:

5 points: Miika and Mote

4 points: IHNN and Ruben

3 points: Flareon

2 points: chipster

1 point: James

Here's my 263 route- I tried pretty much everything but this before reporting 262 in the first place...

Thanks to Josh for an interesting level and Miika for the idea!

I'll be getting to the June results soon...

Miika's post never said the comments had to be posted here, only the solutions and times  :P I hereby appeal for 1 Chip Cup point:

[2016-07-13 10:34:49 PM] James Anderson: this TT is far more deep than I initially expected

[2016-07-13 10:35:12 PM] Tyler Sontag: so deep

[2016-07-13 10:35:22 PM] James Anderson: "ok, that's my initial route plotted, i'll just keep going through all these extra yellow locks at the end of the level to see how many more I need to cut out of my route...oh, I ended up on the top edge of the level"
