March 2017 Time Trial + Mini Time Trial

Recommended Posts

As it's the last month of CCLP4 voting, the levels this month aren't very heavy to optimize.

Enjoy!

-Miika

EDIT: A new Mini Time Trial is announced a few posts down in this thread!

Technicalities and details:

  1. The person with the highest combined remaining time on the two levels wins! There may be a tie in overall score.
  2. This competition is primarily meant for MS rules. You may send in a Lynx solution too and it will be judged in the same category, but if a Lynx solution exceeds the highest MS solution, they will be considered equal.
  3. Please send your solutions (either the tws file or avis) to my own email valeosote at hotmail dot com. I will strive to respond to your message by a confirmation that your score has been recorded.
  4. The levels aren't too hard to solve. In fact, they are pretty easy this time. Don't be afraid to send in your solutions even if you sense they aren't perfect, and simple casual solutions are also appreciated. You may enter if you solve at least one of the levels, but solving both will obviously place higher.
  5. Submission deadline is April 3rd, 2017 where you live. I will judge the submissions without warning during the following days but will accept submissions until I do. If you need a more specific time, you can always ask. To avoid losing on time (it is a time trial after all), get your solutions in early rather than later! You can send in improvements while the competition is running, so there is no downside to sending in something you know might not be your best effort if you had forever to work on it.
  6. This is part of the 2017 season of the Chip Cup. Winner will be awarded 15 points, second place 12, third 10 points, and so on. If you win a competition here for the first time, you receive the "You're Winner!" award. All participants who haven't participated in a Time Trial earlier receive the "Run, Chip, Run" award.
  7. The designer of the levels and any others who have seen the levels in advance, may enter the competition. Please be fair and do not abuse this rule; it is meant to maximize the fun, not provide an advantage.
  8. The levels may receive an update within the first week of their release. This will only be done if there is some significant problem with the first versions of the levels. Please contact me if you suspect something is off.
  9. Do not post your solutions or solution times or share them with others before the competition results are announced. All times will be published at the same time, and the quickest solutions will eventually be released.
  10. As an exception to the above rule, a participant may 'freeze' their scores at some point after submitting their own solutions. They will not be able to submit any more updates after this, but they may talk about the levels and their times with other people who have frozen their entry. I may update a public list of people who have frozen their score.

Can't say I'm surprised who designed these levels. :P I'd like to design some levels for time trial competitions sometime.

Usually not a participant in these sort of comps but since they aren't terribly hard to get a decent time on and I'm going through CCLP3 time improvements as we speak anyway, I'll give them a shot (already kinda did actually).

Cool, Josh! On both accounts!

At the beginning of the year I was spoiled by having a bunch of TT levels ready to go for the competitions. I still have like five, but IHNN wished that his would be used soon so he can release them in his own set without too much delay. New ones are always welcome, and fresh blood in the gears (as the Finnish saying goes) has proven to give us some variety in these things. :)

By the way, CCLP4 voting ends at the end of next month, not this month. :)

So you're saying I have an extra month! YAY!

A new March 2017 Mini Time Trial is starting!

The level is 'Choice Tools', also by Ihavenoname248, and you can find it in either of these two sets:

I see a few different reasons to hold these Mini TTs, and this level fits the bill in more than one way. It's a custom level that might not otherwise be optimized. It looks like it's not too difficult to optimize, while still possibly being complex enough that one person might not find the optimal solution alone. It doesn't take too long to exhaust one of the possible ways to attack it and post your score here. It has some characteristic that might not make it a perfect fit for a normal TT (which this time is just that it's not an exciting level to work on for a month, but maybe for a day). It is not too long or complex to just solve so anyone can join without too much hassle!

In addition to what the levels look like in a Mini TT, I like that these competitions are short and allow for several people to work on the same level at the same time. Just post your score below (you don't need to send in your solution!) and we'll see who first finds a quickest solution! Considering the level this time, I think you can also post which tools you used (though maybe hide these under a spoiler tag if someone else doesn't want to see it). I'm posting this on Monday, so let's keep this one open through Sunday (the 26th).

Additionally, I'm not sure how many Chip Cup points playing in this will be worth, but I'm sure we can throw something at the people who want to join in! :)

Post the score for the mini TT level here? Alright!

I got a 365. It might be improvable, but I'm pretty sure I have the optimal route for my selections... now I wait for J.B. to claim 367 :P

I wouldn't mind knowing all the best times with any of the twenty combinations so I started with something that is a bit slower... 347. :)

Using Suction boots, Ice skates, and the green key.

And in Lynx the same route earns 345.

I got another one done too. It might be the slowest one possible at 337 LX and 339 MS (not sure if I missed it a boost, and if I did it would be a 340).

Suction boots, ice skates, fire boots.

Results!

1. Ihavenoname248 13pts 143 + 118 = 261

-- M11k4_________ 13pts 143 + 118 = 261 (118 + 143 = 261 Lynx)

3. rubenspaans___ 10pts 141 + 118 = 259 Lynx

4. Bacorn_________ 8pts 140 + 116 = 256

5. Xindictive_____ 7pts 132 + 66 = 198

Congrats and thanks to all the participants! I was honestly afraid more people would tie for the win, but luckily the levels proved to challenging enough to create some spread in the scored. Here are the quickest solutions for your viewing pleasure:

The Mini Time Trial results are also in, though the mission to solve and optimize every combination can still be continued if you have interest in it.

 Choice Tools

3pts Ihavenoname248 (365)

2pts rubenspaans___ (354 Lynx and others)

2pts M11k4_________ (347, 345 LX and others)

New competitions are starting very soon, so tune in again! And don't forget to vote on CCLP4!

LOL

I was wondering how the video seemed a bit short for two levels, but was concentrating on the troubles I was having with the sound instead. And I worked on several videos in succession that this sort of mistake slipped by somehow. Thanks IHNN for the catch and video :)

I tried various approaches to this level but always fell short of the next second. Particularly the section to the East of the middle felt like it always cost too many extra moves, but I was never able to hit upon the right recipe to score more. To compensate for my mistake above, here's one of the routes I had for this level:

TT 17.2A - Encased, Just in Case - route

Ok, the above video has now been adjusted to just include solutions for the second level. Here is a video of the first level in Lynx, completing this nonsense:
