A revenge level

Recommended Posts

Revenge on/for what?

A revenge for bad levels.

It's intentionally making an obnoxiously difficult / random level as a bit of a "take that". The prime example is Bloblake.

Josh's Nightmare is also a good example of a mild revenge level. Even though not one person here has said anything about it. Sigh.

Gosh; can we retitle CCLP2 the "revenge pack"?

Anyway, what prompted this? Just a desire to be sadistic, or...?

No. Just no.

CCLP2 is not all about revenge. Only people who haven't played that set assume this, as I once thought the same as well. But let's not go off-topic about that.

No, a few levels I've played lately but I won't name them or who's set they're from. It's not from anyone I regularly talk to, so if you talk to me fairly regularly you're fine :P

Hahaha :D completely agree with you (Y).

(And @Flareon350: I have played all and completed most of CCLP2.)

*cough*

We have threads about CCLP2 and this isn't one of them.

I'm not the one who brought up CCLP2 to begin with so don't look at me.

I know. You're just the unlucky guy I get to glare at angerly for it.

As have I. Well, I've played significantly more than I have completed, but...;)

Maybe he can make a revenge level of his own, inspired by this discussion. Anyway, I'm here, so glare angrily away.

Oh everyone will rage at my levelset...

Haha! I eagerly await it.

I also eagerly await the revenge level that this thread is dedicated to. I sort of assumed that it wouldn't be LYNX compatable...revenge is a dish best served with MS glitches...or something...

I'd be interested in seeing a Lynx-only revenge level. It'd have to be more quietly insidious than outright evil, I'd imagine.

Yes, but this is fun:

Not seen: All the nasty stuff buried under the floor. For example, the two bombs (above-left and above-right) have traps under them. For the one above-left, you blow the bomb up with a block and wait for a blob to erase it. Maybe.

That's not even close to fair. A lot of my early levels had hidden traps and junk -- then I realized that LYNX RULES! (Y) (Y) (Y) (Y)

Isn't that the idea? Cheers.

I prefer MS, but I'll admit lynx is good and quite fun.

Most of my levels are fully lynx compatible.

EDIT:

Ok, this is done... who wants to help me playtest it? :P

You can play it in TW - it's not insane. Do remember that it's MS only, due to the use of invalid tiles (like traps under floor).

Except for a few sections with guesswork, it's mostly skill based as opposed to bloblake. Also, have fun with parity timing! If you don't hate it now you will after this. :teeth:

Okay I downloaded it -- let's see how bad it is.

[Edit]

Okay, it's evil. I made it to the second blue button so far.

The part about it that isn't evil is that once you have beaten most parts of the level a few times it's not exceptionally hard, compared to things like the original Final Destination... just requires good execution, and perfect execution and timing in the teeth, chip and dirt part. Did you find the secret in the blob room?

The original version even I thought was too extreme had 10 blocks you needed to get into water at the end to exit.

It was still evil!!! :O

Has anyone reached the second teeth section yet? :teeth: :teeth: :teeth:

Look at the good news, by the time you beat it you'll be really good at the first third of the level!

I beat it when I was testing it via ghosting each part :P

I consistantly die at the teeth/dirt/chip room due to screwing up the parity. Usually it's about half way through.

I've made it to that room. I collected all the chips on my first try. It's not difficult as long as you keep moving and check the parity whenever you're not sure if it is right. Thanks for making all the frogs an even number of spaces apart (Y).

Of course, I died because I didn't know that the block could kill me through a thin wall <_<.

If, for example, you have a block on a FF-W with a thin wall - E to the left of it, the block is not able to move through the thin wall because the thin wall is blocking it.

Until something steps on it. It is then put on the lower layer, and for some reason a sliding block will ignore the thin wall. This is not a problem for monsters, as this issue fixes itself as soon as the creature leaves and monsters cannot be crushed. But if Chip steps on it, the block slides over the thin wall and onto chip, killing him. This can be solved by ramming the block up against the wall north of it to remove its ability to slide on the FF - W, and this does not happen in Lynx.

Oh I see. Kind of the same reason how a sliding block can kill Chip when he's on a recessed wall... (see JCCLP lvl 58 for this)

It's in both modes by the way.

Okay, I had to try this, because Lynx doesn't have a "bottom" layer like MS does.

It DOES NOT happen in Lynx.

It DOES NOT happen in MS, if you start with the block on the FF.

It DOES happen in MS if you push the block onto the FF and then step on the thin wall tile. This, BTW, is ridiculous. But then, so is block-flicking.

(All testing done in TileWorld, as I haven't gotten MSCC to work in Windows 7 yet.)

Now I have to try JCCLP lvl 58 to see this other effect.

Ummm -- NOT. I died in MS but not in Lynx.
