Tile World 2 Death Box Ideas [Formerly "Tile World 2 Death Box Modding"]

Recommended Posts

Formerly: I want to mod the text boxes that show up when you die, cook a level, etc., but how do I do that?

---

New: I agree. Let's make this a whole death box needed thing. :3

  • "Smooze joke, anyone?" (Blob)
  • "MY CHIP IS ON FIRE!" (Fire)
  • "Chip overheated, you should've turned off your PC." (Fire)
  • "YOUR CHIP A SPLODE" (Bomb)
  • "Your meal is done. I hope you ordered fail, though." (Cooked)
  • "The chef is here!" (Cooked)

  • "Where we're going, we don't need "chips"!" (Force floors leading into a forced death, be it fire, water, bomb, etc.)

Currently, you don't easily do that. (You'd probably have to mess around with the source code.) However, let's start posting suggestions for new death messages that can be incorporate at some point!

"Auch! You realize that was not what you were supposed to do, right?"

"How embarrassing, you did that again. Let's hope Melinda wasn't paying attention."

"Finally! It looked like you'd never die!"

"Hello! McCallahan! Anybody home?!"

"Time for the neurotoxin!"

"Clubhouse used timer! It's super effective!"

"Dude, just get to an exit tile. How hard can that be?"

"Not cool, man. Do you know how long it takes to reset these levels?"

"You know you're gonna have to clean that up, right?"

"Number of minutes since last death: 0."

"I am beginning to wonder how you got into this clubhouse in the first place."

"Why would you go into a corner when there's teeth in the level?"
"Did you really clone a block onto yourself?"
"Wait for [insert monster here] to reverse BEFORE opening the door"

The only problem is that when you cook a level, a message doesn't pop up. The game itself doesn't know that you cooked the level, only the player knows that.

That, and i think TW only differentiates the out-of-time death from the other kinds of death.

"Do I see 'Z's coming out of your head?"

"Just so you know, this doesn't automatically pause when you switch to another window."

If we're going to brainstorm, might as well go over the top and then bring it down if the implementation is too arduous.

Ooops! Chip tried to walk through fire whilist evading [monster].

Minecraft uses code that detects whether the player was being attacked by another player or monster at the time of an environmental death such as a lethal fall or lava, which indicates that the player jumped off a cliff or into lava to escape an attacker, which gave me this idea.  :teeth:

"You did it again, didn't you?"
"Having fun yet?" (at least five deaths)
"Notice: Chip has died of attempted socialization" (monster)

"Look both ways before crossing!" (moving block)

"Warning: Chip's feminine personality has killed him due to contact with a bug" (bug/paramecium only)

"Time is up!" (out of time)

"Chip says surrounding temperature is too hot" (fire)

"You should have taken swimming lessons" (water)

(either keep "Don't touch the bombs" from MSCC or add something new, I don't have an idea for the bombs)

I went into a hex editor and changed all the game over messages to something general like "Game Over, Please Try Again." some years back. All you have to make sure is to keep the length of the messages the same. In other words, the new messages must be shorter or equal in length to the old ones, and eventually use spaces as padding.
